Time To Relax

More and more people are using complementary therapy to ease the discomfort of modern-day living. Many of the disorders common to the twenty first century - such as digestive disorders, stress and fatique - are the result of people failing to take time to nurture themselves and encourage wellbeing through relaxation.

The human body is a swirl of energy centres, which when in tune with each other cause us to feel alive and invigorated. However, blocks often exist as a result of many different factors: protracted working hours, the plethora of electronic devices and systems with which we overload our lives, poor diet and lack of sleep.

Help is at hand: It is never too late to redress the balance. By making the commitment to take time for yourself and give your body the opportunity it needs to heal, you may find that you feel like a different person. Complementary therapies are holistic - that is, they deal with the whole person: mind, body and spirit. Indian head massage and reflexology can literally work from head to toe to help you to achieve your natural balance.

Courses of treatments
Commitment to a course of treatments is important. If you think about it, you don't just visit the doctor or dentist once in your lifetime, or whenever you feel like giving yourself a treat, so why should holistic healthcare be any different? There is a difference, but this lies in the fact that holistic therapy aims at being preventative - that is, treating the cause, rather than the symptoms, of disease. Ayurvedic beliefs hold that there are six stages of disease and that our society has conditioned us to recognise only the last two of these stages: "I feel ill" and "I am ill". Dis-ease and illness work on many different emotional and physical levels and through regular complementary therapy it is possible to keep your mind, body and spirit in a state of balance with the aim of preventing disease from occurring in the first place.

By considering reflexology, Indian head massage, Hopi ear candling and Ayurveda, you are signing up to the wisdom of ancient peoples: the Egyptians, the Chinese, the Native Americans and the Indians, and opting to treat your body in a natural and non-invasive way.

Precisely because a holistic approach treats the cause and not the symptoms, reaching a conclusion may take a little while longer than conventional "quick fix" treatments as the therapy you choose peels away layers to find the root cause, which can sometimes be emotional as well as physical. This is not to say that conventional medicine is not worthy of respect. In an ideal world, "complementary" therapy would be exactly that - working in harmony with conventional medicine to treat the whole person holistically. It is not diagnostic, nor is it curative (although it can be that way), but it does aim to be preventative. This is why your therapist may suggest a course of treatments to be taken as often as you can realistically manage them.

An ongoing treatment plan is an important part of the whole process, and your therapist will work with you in identifying any small changes in your lifestyle which may aid your understanding
