The art of Indian head massage - or Champissage - is based on the complete healing system known as Ayurveda, which has been practised in India for over three thousand years. It deals with the body on a physical level by easing muscle tension and soothing away stresses and strains. It also works to balance the body's energies and achieve what is known as homeostasis - stability and wellbeing. Some of the benefits of regular Champissage are:

Relief from pain and stiffness in the muscles.

Relief from tension headaches, eye strain, nasal congestion and hangovers

Alleviation of stress, anxiety, lethargy and depression

Increased energy levels, enhanced creativity, clarity of thought and concentration

Improved skin condition and strong, healthy, shiny hair

What Does a Treatment Involve?

You will be seated and fully clothed and the therapist will stand behind you. Starting with the neck and shoulder area, gentle to firm pressure will be applied in a series of movements aimed to release tension and stress held in the muscles and tendons.

The sequence will then continue to include massage of the scalp and face - helpful for relieving stress and clearing any congestion. At the end of the treatment, the therapist will perform energy balancing, which simply involves the laying of hands on the head. A treatment session usually lasts for about half an hour and a course of treatments varies in length depending on your body's needs.
